Portrait Photography Course

_mg_4878We held another highly successful Portrait Photography Course on Saturday 23rd January at bangwallop studios. The course was designed around learning how to work with a model and the challenges of directing your subject to achieve the best results.

The group were given expert instruction on composition, lighting, expression and other basic tricks and pointers to make their portrait photography come alive!

Our morning session involved a group shoot on the beach with our beautiful model Kate, giving the students an opportunity to work one to one and also more reportage style shots. Quick trip back on the ferry for a well deserved lunch and then the guys got to grips with ’styling’ the model for the afternoon session in the studio, they all seemed to grasp their inner fashionista pretty quickly and had Kate accessorised and ready in no time. We ran through some basic studio flash lighting techniques and then each student got an opportunity to work with Kate to produce some fantastic studio based images. A quick instruction on Adobe Lightroom and critique and we were done! Phew!

They guys all got to select their favourite image from the day which was printed for them to take away. Here are a selection of the students images, let me know what you think, I think they did really well!

I just wanted to say thanks for such a great course. I really enjoyed the day, learning a new aspect of photography. Sam was a great tutor, both knowledgeable and easy going. Kate was a lovely model that made learning so much easier and fun.

In short, I had a great day, learnt new skills and found a new aspect of photography to be passionate about

    Hi ,

I can echo Scot’s comments. A very enjoyable day, nicely structured and well run in a relaxed manner by Sam.
Kate was Great! Beautiful and willing, she managed to achieve a real contrast between the outdoor and studio shots. I would love to photograph her again to add to the great images achieved.
The course was real confidence booster in what can be achieved, using simple tips and the application of good composition.

Keep up the good work at Bangwallop.

    Thanks Phil

This was my second Bangwallop course and was just as enjoyable as the first. I am very much an amateur, but the content is pitched to cater for all levels of experience. Portrait photography was a refreshing break from my normal job and a great insight into a different world. Sam was an excellent instructor who put us and our very patient model at ease. Thanks again Bangwallop, my only complaint is that I want to upgrade my camera!
